Adopt-A-Highway
Feb

12:00 PM12:00

Adopt-A-Highway

Atlee Church is hosting another Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on SUNday, FEBRUARY 23.  We need your help! We will be removing recycleable items and trash from local roadsides.

We will pick up recyclables in one bag, trash in another bag, and count the items on a paper form.  This way the items are already sorted for recycling vs. trash for disposal.

Counting of the items has a very special purpose.  We will enter the count and total weight into a worldwide trash cleanup database named CleanSwell, which is run by the Ocean Conservancy in the USA.

We will meet at the Mechanicsville campus, after church, on Sunday, February 23rd at 12 pm.  After a quick, provided lunch, everyone will receive instructions for collecting trash safely, a safety vest, gloves, trash bags, trash picker sticks, water, and a clipboard and pen with the counting form for each team.

We will load all the filled trash bags onto a truck and trailer.  Mark will weigh them at home and take them to the Verdi Lane Transfer station.

So come on out for a great time to clean up God’s creation to make it as healthy as we can for Him and for others to enjoy.

You can reach Mark Alling, the group leader with any questions:

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24

4-5 PM AND 6-7 PM

Services will be identical in content.

Childcare will be offered up to Pre-K (No elementary programming)

If you are new to the church scene, here are some reasons why we attend church on Christmas Eve:

  1. Spiritual Reflection: Many attend Christmas Eve services as a way to reflect on the significance of Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

  2. Tradition: Christmas Eve services often carry deep-rooted traditions for families and communities. It's a time-honored practice for many to attend a service as part of their holiday traditions. This is a great time to start a new tradition! Positive yearly social traditions are psychologically grounding and have many benefits for our well being.

  3. Community and Togetherness: Christmas Eve services provide an opportunity for people to come together with family, friends, and their community. It's a time to share in the joy of the season and connect with others.

  4. Celebration of the Season: Attendees often appreciate the festive atmosphere, with seasonal music, and decorations creating a celebratory mood. It's a way to immerse oneself in the holiday spirit.

  5. Finding Comfort and Peace: For some, the Christmas season can be emotionally charged. Attending a service may offer a sense of comfort, peace, and solace, providing a reflective space during a bustling time.

  6. Remembrance and Gratitude: Christmas Eve services often include moments of reflection on the year, fostering gratitude for blessings and remembering loved ones who have passed away. It can be a time to appreciate the good that is present in one's life.

  7. Reconnection with Faith: For those who may not regularly attend religious services, Christmas Eve can serve as a reconnection with faith, offering a welcoming environment for spiritual exploration.

In essence, Christmas Eve services serve as a communal and reflective experience, catering to a variety of emotional, spiritual, and traditional needs during the holiday season.

Back to School Food Drive

School is back in session!

Let's make sure we stock the classrooms of Georgetown School with snacks for the kids that need them. Sometimes just having a snack is all a kid needs to learn better and perform better in school.

We are also starting back up our Atlee Action Pack weekend food program for local elementary aged children in need. Donate ASAP so we can get off to a running start and show these kids that they are loved and cared for by their community.

The Atlee Action Packs program began in 2013 with a mission to help prevent weekend hunger and provide nutrition for Hanover County students in need.

Atlee Action Packs are bags of food that include 20 child-friendly items that are simple to prepare and eat. Each Atlee Action Pack provides a student with six, non-perishable meals and four snacks to be eaten on the weekends throughout the school year.

IMPORTANT DROPOFF INFORMATION:

From August 11th until September 15th, Atlee Church’s Mechanicsville campus will be collecting food items for Hanover County students in need. All items can be dropped off at the front doors, during regular office hours (M-Th, 9a - 5p), on the cart.

Helping Hanover Kids

Helping Hanover Kids

Helping Hanover Kids is a brand new initiative between Hanover County elementary schools and Atlee Church. We are responding to specific and immediate needs that the school has identified in their student body.

To be a part of the solution and to make a difference in a child’s life today, please drop off the following items as soon as possible. You can bring them to Church on Sunday and leave them in the baskets at the table in the back of the auditorium or you can drop them in the clothing donation bins outside of our main entrance at any time of day (please label or write on the bag ‘Helping Hanover Kids’).

PROJECT LIST:

GEORGETOWN SCHOOL LANDSCAPING PROJECT- To show appreciation to our local schools for how hard they work serving our kids, we will be helping with cleaning out a special decorative garden at Georgetown School. This project will include pulling weeds and laying fresh mulch. Please dress appropriately and bring gardening gloves (if preferred).

POLE GREEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - At Pole Green Elementary, we will be helping with cleaning up the sign in front of the school; clearing foliage from the sign and cleaning mildew off the sign as well as planting some flowers around the sign.

RURAL POINT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Rural Point has an incredible gardening program for their students. We will be helping to clean out and maintain some raised beds to help beautify this gardening program.

MECHANICSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - We will be staining and maintaining the benches and picnic tables that the students use in their outdoor commons area as well as some general cleanup where needed.

TRAIL TEAM - We are continuing to improve our nature trail behind the church! This team will help clear the trail. We are excited to open up this trail to the public and to share our property with our neighbors who are looking for a peaceful wooded trail to walk. The trail is 0.56 miles long from beginning to end. You may want to wear long pants, bug spray and/or gloves.

LIFE4REAL CLOTHES SORTING - We will sort and distribute locally donated clothing to shelters and those in urgent need throughout our region. These clothes are provided to those being rescued out of human trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness and addiction.
